Earlier this year at the International Wine Challenge, the German grocery store Aldi shocked the world. It’s $8 rosé won silver at the International Wine Challenge’s Great Value Awards. Now Aldi is at it again, only this time it’s taking over the liquor space with a $13 gin.
The brand’s Oliver Cromwell London Dry Gin won a gold medal at the International Wine and Spirits Challenge, the Independent reports. It beat out gins that cost up to four times as much in a blind taste test.
It wasn’t just about the gin, either. Aldi won a total of 20 medals for it’s budget priced vodka, single malt Scotch, and creme de cassis.
“The display of awards achieved by Aldi this year at the International Spirits Challenge was fantastic,” a spokesperson for Aldi said. “They consistently showcased high quality products int he blind tastings, which demonstrates that you don’t have to compromise on price to enjoy great tasting drinks.”
Even if the Oliver Cromwell London Dry isn’t your cup of tea, it’s a good sign for the price conscious consumer. You don’t have to drink expensive to drink well.
