If using oil in your cooking, pour it in the pan in an area away from the food. By the time the oil reaches the food it has been heated up and is ready to roll. This helps to bring out the flavor in your food.

Ground Meat

When making a dish that contains garlic, make sure you purchase the freshest garlic at the store. Garlic is normally sweeter when it is fresh. You can see fresh garlic when it is not shriveled, soft, bruised and the skin is firm.

Use a paper towel to blot the moisture from the surface of ground meat before cooking. Blotting the moisture on ground meat is always a great idea. Any moisture on the meat will be released when it’s cooked. The moisture will start to sizzle away. This causes your meat from searing as you intended; it will steam instead of sear.

Always check to see if your utensils are clean if you are about to cook. If food is left behind on the utensils after washing, this may spoil what you are planning to cook. This could spread harmful bacteria into your food, and could be detrimental to your health.

If you want to serve a complicated meal, reduce your stress by doing the prep the night before. Get everything together beforehand; ensure you have all the ingredients, measure and chop all spices or herbs and make sure that you have what the recipe requires.You can reduce a lot of recipes to a matter of mixing everything put together and putting heat to it if you do good advance preparation.

When you are cooking, don’t be afraid to be creative. Following a recipe word for word and teaspoon for teaspoon is not always what cooking is about. Sometimes adding or taking away a little extra of this or that can alter the taste so much, that it exceeds the original recipe itself. Cutting Board

Pick a place that will not compromise the quality of your cooking spices; try somewhere that is non-humid and light free. Exposing them to humidity, light or warm environments will dry them out more and dissipate the flavors and aromas. This just exposes them to the elements and degrades their flavors.

It is important to properly care for your wooden cutting board properly. A wood cutting board can warp or split by too much exposure to moisture, heat and dryness. Do not submerge the board to clean it, instead, soapy water. You can do some restoration to a damaged board by regularly oiling it with a product specifically for cutting boards to maintain yours. Be sure to let your cutting board dry it off completely before using.

Utilize stackable cooling racks. If you are baking six dozen cookies, they can consume all the available space when you cool them. Cooking racks that stack provide you the tools to use your space more efficiently. The cookies will cool vertically and you will have lots of space for your other kitchen activities.

You can improve the flavor of even the most simple dish much better with seasonings and herbs.Dried herbs like oregano are better with dishes that have a plethora of flavors. Fresh herbs produce a stronger flavor and can improve the taste of any dish.

To get a firm shell for twice baked potatoes or potato skins, use a baking potato with a thicker skin. Red potatoes have thin skins and cannot support a dense filling.

Red potatoes are not ideal for a skin to hold the filling.

Be considerate to those who will be consuming your meals by reserving many spices for later addition. Spices like cayenne, garlic powder, and pepper are fabulous seasonings. Everyone has different preferences of spices and other seasonings. Instead of adding spices and herbs to each dish during preparation, allow your fellow diners to customize their food with a variety of seasonings. This allows each individual to enjoy the meal in accordance with his or her own personal preferences.

If you have odors from the food that you are cooking with, onions, or fish, try rubbing your hands with stainless steel for about one minute before you wash them. You can use the sink itself, leaving them fresh.

When you are cooking in cookware with a nonstick coating, only use rubber, silicone, or nylon utensils. Metal or wooden utensils can potentially scratch the nonstick coating, this will reduce its effectiveness over time, and even worse, could lead to food contamination. These flakes could be very toxic.

If you are cooking a large batch of pancakes or waffles, it is important to keep the food warm until you are ready to serve. Keep your oven on ‘warm’ or at 300 degrees. Once the waffles or pancakes are finished, place them into the oven on a plate so they remain heated.

You could also choose to add more tomatoes to counteract the saltiness.

You should buy your fish and other meat that are bone-in.

Take excess fat out of your stews and soups. Place an ice cube in a spoon and skim it over the surface of the soup or stew. The fat will adhere to the ice on the spoon. You can skim fat off of the top of stews and soups by blotting it with a paper towel.
