If you are just starting out with cooking, consider doing your research at your local library. There are plenty of cookbooks with simple recipes available. Work your way through a few different recipes, but do not allow yourself to become discouraged during the learning process.

Airtight Containers

When you are making stir-fry dishes, make certain the meat is thinly sliced on the bias. This can be quite tricky and time-consuming. Take the meat out of the freezer just as it is beginning to freeze and slice diagonally across the grain at an angle of 45 degrees.

Always use airtight containers to store sugar or flour in the kitchen. Keeping your food in airtight containers will keep them from spoiling or being infected with bugs. These containers can be purchased at almost any store and make a good investment.

When adding oil to a pan or skillet that already contains food, drizzle the oil down the side of the pan. The oil will heat as it flows toward the center. This will enhance the flavors of the food.

Beans and tofu contain a lot of protein that you may not have yet considered adding to your diet. Both are available to buy at almost every grocery stores. Try frying tofu and you will have a tasty alternative to meat. Beans boiled with herbs for a meal full of protein.

Does pitching moldy fruit into a trash can upset you? Is it a good practice to save them by cutting out the rotten, moldy part? Unfortunately, there isn’t any way to salvage fruit that has begun to rot. Toss it in the trash; you may not be able to see all of the areas that are affected by the mold, and if you eat any of it, you can become very ill.

This allows the fruits to stay fresh for months. You will also be able to enjoy certain fruits that are out of season.

For crispier French fries, you should chill the peeled potatoes in water for 30 minutes or more before frying them. When your potatoes soak up cold fluids, their fibers are reinforced. This means that they will hold up better to the heat necessary for the frying process.

Six Months

You can also use this seasoning on foods other than meat. Spread it on pumpkin seeds that are roasted to make yourself a savory snack. Another way that you can use this is to put it on your scrambled eggs. It is a simple addition, but the burst of flavor it gives will have everyone raving.

It is important to buy new spices around every six months. The flavors of spices diminishes if they sit around for too long.If you do not think you will use all of the spice within six months, give some to a family member or friend to keep from wasting it.

If you’re cooking pumpkins, cut them in half by positioning them upright and slicing down the middles. Put both halves of the pumpkin on different baking sheets with the cut side down. Moisten each sheet with water, then place the pumpkin halves in a 350-degree oven for 60 minutes.

Follow the instructions carefully whenever you prepare macaroni and cheese. The macaroni turns out perfect this way and is to die for once the cheese is melted over the noodles. Use a solid face spoon to serve to make sure you get plenty of cheese scooped up the macaroni. Use some black pepper as the spice on your mac and cheese!

If you want to cook a roast but don’t have enough time, you should keep the bone in. Your meat will cook faster this way because the bone helps to carry the heat straight to the inside of your roaster. After the cooking period is completed, simply remove the bone and proceed as usual.

Allow your cooked food to sit for a moment before it is served. Many do not realize how important it is to let the meal rest. Many people are tempted to quickly serve food hot off the grill or stovetop. If you serve immediately off the grill, you will really be missing out.Always allow your meat sit for a little while.

If you love using herbs and spices, make sure to keep them stored someplace that is dark and cool to maintain their freshness and flavor. Do not store herbs and spices in cabinets over the stove, and avoid storing them in other warm areas, as their flavor will dissipate and you will have wasted your money.

You can do some restoration to a damaged board by regularly oiling it with a product specifically for cutting boards to maintain yours. Make sure that your board is completely dried before you use it.

Be sure to care for your wooden cutting board properly. Heat, moisture and other elements can cause warping and splitting of the wood. Do not immerse the cutting board in water, but instead, wipe it off with a sponge using warm water and soap. If you have a damaged cutting board, you should purchase an oil product that is designed for cutting board restoration. Let it dry for a while after oiling.

Exposure to light, heat and light can cause your spices to lose their flavor fast. This exposure will only exposes the spices to the elements which make them lose their flavors.

There are several different ways to warm tortillas. The first way requires you to place them into a preheated oven, at 350 degrees, and bake them to your liking. You can use the flame of a gas stove to warm up a tortilla directly. You’re tortilla will be tastier if you cook it that way.

Do your prep work in advance to cut down on cooking time. You can get many of the ingredients ready one or two days before you cook your meal. There are many occasions where longer prep times actually improved by early preparation.

Keep your seasonings in a cool, dark, moisture-free place. Flavor loss occurs when they are exposed to heat, light and humidity. In this location, the spices are exposed to heat that will cause their flavors to dissipate.

When it’s chilled enough, you’ll see hard fat clumps floating on top. The congealed fat can then be removed with a spoon and discarded. Each tablespoon of hardened fat removed equates to around 100 calories so that can add up quickly to quite a savings.
