May 14, 2017 by Roger Lowford

If using skewers made of steel or metal, the square or twisted kind are much better than round ones for holding food in place.

Did you ever feel guilty for tossing moldy fruits in the garbage? Should you cut of the rotten part to save the rest? If you have fruit that is just a little rotten, throw it away. Mold grows deeper than on the surface, and because it can make you sick, you should throw away any partially rotten fruit.

There is something you can do to rescue your sauce so it isn’t wasted. Mix one tablespoon of starch from corn and two tablespoons of water. Stir this mixture into your simmering thin sauce and it will thicken up. Make sure you stir your sauce and stop pouring the starch slowly while stirring constantly to make it not be too thick.

For crispier French fries, you should chill the peeled potatoes in water for 30 minutes or more before frying them. By leaving the potatoes to soak up cold water, the fibers are reinforced. This makes it so when you fry them, they’ll withstand the heat better and won’t break down completely.

Never prepare the full amount after seasoning it. Cook a small amount in a patty first.

When you cook vegetables quickly over high heat, their quality is best. If you slow cook your vegetables, they will lose their nutritional value. These quick cooking techniques will produce generally, healthier vegetable sides. Only cook vegetables as much as you have to, in order to preserve their taste and nutritional value.

Mushrooms soak up a large amount of water. Wipe the mushrooms off with a cloth to prepare them for cooking.

Substitute water for other more flavorful liquids, in order to spice up your meals. Broth is a great substitute for water, and milk adds delicious flavor and extra nutrition to soups and stews. As an alternative to milk, try using thinned sour cream, yogurt, soy milk or buttermilk. By using different liquid ingredients in your side dishes, you can increase their flavor and nutritional value.

Airtight Containers
