Keep your herbs in a place that is both dark and cool. If your spices are exposed to moisture, heat, or light they may lose their flavor. Ground herbs and spices can retain full flavor for about a year. Spices which are kept whole can retain their flavor for between three and five years. Proper storage is essential to maintaining fresh, robust flavors.

Keep herbs and spices in a dark space that stays room temperature. If your spices are exposed to moisture, humidity or heat, or light they may lose their flavor. Ground spices typically maintain their flavor for 12 months under normal circumstances. Whole spices may retain flavor for around 3 to 5 years. Storing spices in glass containers with a longer shelf-life for your spices.

To make a delicious beef stir-fry, slice your meat thinly and across the grain. This process may take a very long time, and it takes practice. Remove the meat from the freezer before it is frozen, but when it is solid to touch. Next, position the meat at 45 degrees to the chopping board and slice across the grain with a sharp knife.

If you’re grilling especially thick slabs of meat – anything thicker than an inch and a half – bring the lid down on your grill to speed up the cooking process.

Fresh Basil

When you are using wooden skewers in cooking, soak them for at least half an hour before putting the veggies on them. That way, they will not burn during the cooking process. Keep food from falling off of your skewers by using two parallel skewers instead of a single one.

Trim or cut the basil once in a while so it grows even more and you will be able to enjoy fresh basil!

Add the seasonings a little at a time throughout the cooking process. This method helps to preserve and enhance the flavor of the seasoning instead of allowing it to cook away.

If burgers get stuck to the grill, it might be hard to cook them while preserving their shape. Try brushing vegetable oil on the cooking surface prior to cooking so that food from sticking.

If serving salad, keep the dressing on the side, rather than pouring it on the salad. Amount and type of dressing are personal tastes, so let your guests dress their own salad. You should also provide a large variety of dressings to serve your guests.

Add chicken broth to your pan when you cook them. Chicken broth is great for preventing sticking and gives them some great flavor with them.

You should consider drying your tomatoes on your own. Start by cutting full-sized tomatoes into 1/2″ slices or by halving Roma tomatoes. Take a cooling rack and place the tomatoes on it. Sprinkle them with salt. Place the rack on top of a cookie sheet, and bake the tomatoes in an oven set at 190 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 10 hours. Place the tomatoes into a freezer bag, and freeze them for later use. You can also pack dried tomatoes in a jar with some fresh herbs and olive oil. The jar can be stored in your refrigerator for up to two weeks.

This procedure will allow your fruits to stay fresh and delicious for long periods of time. This is also a good way to have access to fruits that you can only find during certain growing seasons.

Make sure you thoroughly clean your utensils before starting to cook. If there is leftover food on your utensils from the last meal you cooked, it could contaminate the food you are making now. This can also spread harmful bacteria.

If serving salad, and you are including a salad with the meal, allow your guests to put the dressing on themselves. Some people prefer more dressing when eating salads so it is important that each person add their own dressing.Make sure you have a wide selection of dressings to choose from.

Organization while cooking is necessary in order to avoid disasters, like under done or burnt food. Just like with anything you do, the more organized you are, the more productive you will be. A lack of organization in your kitchen work areas can cause you to lose focus, among other things, and can easily result in wasted time, money, and food.

Do not use wine for cooking a recipe that you have not tasted. There are wines available that was made specifically for cooking purposes.

When cooking, wash dishes and tools as soon as you’re done with them. Fill one side of your sink with hot soapy water and the other with clean rinse water. Your utensils and containers wash up easier the sooner you get to them, and washing them as you go also allows you to re-use them while preparing the same recipe.

It is vital for all cooks to have their cooking supplies. If your kitchen supplies are not organized, you’ll take longer to find the utensils you need. Try keeping similar items in one another. For instance, you want to organize your spices such as parsley and basil in one cabinet.

Blotting ground meats prior to preparing them is advisable. It is a good idea to always blot away moisture before cooking ground meat. If you skip this step, the moisture will be released during the cooking process. It will cause the meat to sizzle. This is undesirable, since the meat will technically steam, instead of searing.

To make pasta sauce even more delicious, save some of the water you boiled the pasta in. Set aside about one-fourth cup of the pasta water. Then, mix a little of this water in with your pasta sauce. Amalgamation will take place in your sauce when you add the pasta water. The starch will give it the “creaminess” you desire.
